When we sat down to create Endless Horizon, we knew it had to capture something big. This wasn’t just another track—it’s the heart of Horizons. It’s that moment when you stop imagining the unknown and take your first step into it. The title says it all: an endless journey, infinite possibilities, and the courage to keep moving forward.
Let’s take you behind the scenes—into the meaning, the music, and how this track helped define Crystal Youth’s sound.
Finding the Meaning
Michael: “The idea came to me when I was out on a run. We have some amazing scenery here with the hills of the Pennines and I needed something to focus on. It was morning, dawn break, and you could see the sun rising over the hills—something far away, pulling me forward. By the time I got back, I’d pretty much worked out what the song was going to be about.”
Ayesha: “He came in all excited and said, ‘Endless Horizon. That’s the name.’ I thought, ‘Alright, calm down,’ but when he explained it, it just made sense. It’s not about running away; it’s about running towards something—something bigger than yourself.”
The track explores hope, resilience, and the pull of the unknown. Lines like “Where the sky meets the earth, I chase the fading light” are both literal and symbolic, speaking to the human drive to keep going, even when the goal feels out of reach.
Ayesha: “That line gets me every time. It’s not just about space or horizons—it’s about life, isn’t it? It’s about not giving up, even when everything feels overwhelming.”
The Creative Process
Michael: “This was one of those tracks where I could hear the final version in my head, but getting it there was a nightmare. I wanted it to feel cinematic—like you’re standing on the edge of something massive—but it couldn’t be overdone. Finding that balance was tricky.”
Ayesha: “I remember there was this one night where he was stuck on the intro for hours. I told him to leave it for a bit, and next thing, I hear him humming this melody in the kitchen. I’m like, ‘That’s it! That’s what you’ve been looking for.’”
Vocals were another challenge. Ayesha’s delivery had to carry the emotional weight of the track while staying true to its hopeful tone.
Michael: “Her voice just makes the song. It’s powerful but not overwhelming, emotional without being overly polished. It’s the balance the track needed.”
Ayesha: “I think I did about twenty takes of the chorus to get it just right. Michael kept saying, ‘Make it raw, keep it real,’ and I was like, ‘Alright, but there’s a limit to how raw we’re getting here.’”
The Sound of Something Bigger
From the opening synth swell to the final orchestral build, Endless Horizon is designed to feel vast, like you’re stepping into the infinite.
Michael: “We wanted it to sound like a journey. The synths give it that forward motion, and the strings add this emotional weight. It’s big, but it’s not just noise—it’s purposeful.”
Ayesha: “The orchestral bits give it this cinematic feel, but it’s also grounded. It’s not all dramatic crescendos—there’s space for the quieter moments too.”
The track also hints at the diversity of Horizons, blending synthwave with orchestral elements and touches of post-rock.
Michael: “This is where we found the core of our sound. It’s cinematic, emotional, and unapologetically ambitious. It felt like we’d hit on something that really worked for us.”
Where It Fits in Horizons
As the second track on Horizons, Endless Horizon picks up where The Dreamer leaves off. If the opening track is about imagining the journey, this one’s about starting it.
Michael: “It’s the turning point, isn’t it? You’ve stood at the edge, thinking about what might be out there. Now it’s time to move.”
Ayesha: “And it’s not just about the big stuff, like space or the future. It’s about real life too—taking risks, trying something new, stepping out of your comfort zone. All that terrifying but brilliant stuff.”
What It Means to Us
For both of us, Endless Horizon is a milestone. It’s the track where everything we wanted Crystal Youth to be finally came together.
Michael: “You have all these ideas—cinematic music, emotional storytelling, big themes—and this was the moment where it all clicked. It set the tone for everything we’ve done since.”
Ayesha: “For me, it’s about connection. If even one person listens to this song and feels like they can keep going, even when it’s hard, then we’ve done our job.”
